Camp Running Tree

Summer Day Camps

Summer presents an even greater challenge for children who are at risk. With Regular School on break and Summer School ending in June, the potential for deviance increases for many children without the structure and discipline of regular school.

CAMP RUNNING TREE offers the perfect setting and opportunity for children ages 6 to 17 by: rendering structure and discipline; providing a creative environment for educational enrichment activities; and creating an atmosphere for improving the health and social image of children.

The agency administers summer camps at the county level. Currently, CNS is currently working with schools, churches, and other entities in the following counties: Chester County; Chesterfield County; Kershaw County; Lancaster County; Lee County; and Marlboro County.

... for    Health

Conventional wisdom says that nutrient deficiency is somehow connected to poor academic performance. Children can not grow and develop into the vibrant adults they could without proper nutrition. Therefore, CAMP RUNNING TREE participates in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) which provides nutritious meals according to USDA Guidelines for meal component and portion size. The camp also employs exercise instructors who provide activities which meet the

Presidential Youth Fitness Program Standards.

... for Education

CAMP RUNNING TREE employs certified

teachers who present curricula in the critical areas of Language Arts and Math. Campers are also provided drug, alcohol, and tobacco prevention classes as well as other educational enrichment activities designed to both stimulate and motivate.

... for Community

Campers from CAMP RUNNING TREE will be able to define community. Because of increasing racial, color, ethnic, and social diversities; there must be continuous training and controlled opportunities, such as camps, for children to develop communicable skills. The following is a list of programs and activities designed to foster a sense of community:

  • Basketball
  • Softball
  • Badminton
  • Cheerleading
  • Stepping
